While the downtown Phoenix plants are all relatively close to each other, the company’s plants at ASU are widely spread apart and the Tucson and Midtown plants are 110 miles away. As a result, starting with the Tucson system in 2003, Northwind Phoenix has made great strides in implementing and optimizing the benefits of remote operations.

Based at two identically equipped downtown Phoenix locations - the Convention Center and the Northwind Phoenix District Energy Plant - Northwind Phoenix's current Central Operations Center can operate and monitor all plants. Some plants are staffed 24/7, while others are staffed 8 hours per day, and yet others always operate remotely. The plants that are not staffed receive frequent and regular inspections in addition to the normal logging of equipment operations that is conducted remotely.
