Solar Photovoltaic

Solar Photovoltaics (PV) is the field of technology and research related to the application of solar cells for energy by converting sun energy (sunlight, including sun ultra violet radiation) directly into electricity. Photovoltaic production has been doubling every 2 years, increasing by an average of 48 percent each year since 2002, making it the world’s fastest-growing energy technology. At the end of 2008, the cumulative global PV installations reached 15,200 megawatts.

APS Energy Services has been designing and installing Solar Photovoltaic systems for 6 years. We are currently designing and installing solar PV systems ranging in size from 10 kW to 6.5 MW.

Solar Thermal

Solar thermal energy is a technology for harnessing solar energy for thermal energy (heat). Low temperature collectors are flat plates generally used to heat swimming pools. Medium-temperature collectors are also usually flat plates but are used for creating hot water for residential and commercial use. High temperature collectors concentrate sunlight using mirrors or lenses and are generally used for electric power production.

APS Energy Services has been designing and installing Solar Thermal systems for the last 2 years. We have installed solar thermal systems ranging in size from 16,435 therms to 16,500 therms.

Biomass

Biomass is biological material derived from living, or recently living organisms, such as wood, waste, and alcohol fuels. Commonly, biomass is plant matter grown to generate electricity or produce heat. For example, forest residues (such as dead trees, branches and tree stumps), yard clippings and wood chips may be used as biomass. However, biomass also includes plant or animal matter used for production of fibers or chemicals. Biomass may also include biodegradable wastes that can be burnt as fuel.

APS Energy Services has been designing and installing biomass cogeneration systems for the last 4 years. We have designed and installed biomass systems up to 1 MW.

Wind Power

Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of energy, such as electricity, using wind turbines. At the end of 2008, worldwide capacity of wind-powered generators was 121.2 gigawatts (GW). In 2008, wind power produced about 1.5% of worldwide electricity usage and is growing rapidly, having doubled in the three years between 2005 and 2008.

APS Energy Services has designed wind power systems ranging in size from 1 kW to 30 kW.

Anaroebic Digestion

Anaerobic digestion is a series of processes in which microorganisms break down biodegradable material in the absence of oxygen and is widely used to treat wastewater. As part of an integrated waste management system, anaerobic digestion reduces the emission of landfill gas into the atmosphere. Anaerobic digestion is widely used as a renewable energy source because the process produces a methane and carbon dioxide rich biogas suitable for energy production helping replace fossil fuels.

APS Energy Services has designed and installed a digester that generates up to 400 kW of electricity.
